Why oh why?

Corrine Jackson!!!!!!! I wanted to read this book even before I read the synopsis because it is written by Corrine Jackson! Jackson is the sweet author of my favorite book of 2012 - at the moment- If I Lie (you should totally buy it!). I cannot stop thinking about this heartbreaking, unforgettable book. So, I am ready to read her second book Touched. 

I love the idea of the healer gaining the injuries she heals. The story sounds enjoyable. I hope Remy and Asher are well-dimensional characters. And I love star-crossed lovers, which I am sure they will be.

Truly Delightful!

Looking for a book that is fun, entertaining- a pure delight? Look no further. My Super Sweet Sixteenth Century by Rachel Harris is a wonderful book full of time traveling, loveable characters, Renaissance jargon matched with modern jargon and fantastic scenes. The true reality of Renaissance Italy time period was depicted in this story. Like marriage laws and the lack of drinking water.

Cat is a delightful main character that is easy to relate to and I am very glad to go on this journey to Renaissance Italy with her and her trusty backpack. I love feeling her adoration for art. She grows throughout the story as she learns to appreciate her life. At the beginning of the story, Cat is pretty lonely in the friendship department but throughout her trip to Renaissance Italy she lets her guard down and make a good friend with her sweet ancestor Alessandra.

Alessandra has more then my favorite name ever. She is bubbly and fun and desires to be an actor. I can relate to that; I always wanted to be an actor (maybe in college). But she cannot because she is living in a time where it is illegal for women to be actors. She was a well-developed friend for Cat and I cannot wait for her story in June. I need it!!!!! I wish I could be a friend with her and talk about theater with her. She is so passionate about it.

Lorenzo is the Italian man Cat falls in love it. While, they both are attracted to each other the moment they meet, they take their time to fall in love and start to admit they love each other. He is compassionate, a gentleman and delightful.

The plot is full of hilarious scenes. The most memorable one is when Alessandra, Cat, Cipriano (Alesaandra’s serious, yet caring brother and Lorenzo’s best friend) and Lorenzo have fun in the Italian countryside and, later, act out the tale of Snow White. My favorite character Alessandra did a swell Evil Witch. I love to be in that gorgeous field someday that was described beautifully. It was a true scene of friendship and happiness.

Overall, My Super Sweet Sixteenth Century by Rachel Harris is not a story you want to miss. The next time you are feeling sad or stressed, read this book and I promise it can bring joy to your life.

Why oh why?

I always have had a thing for secret admirers (or secret haters). The first ever episode of my favorite comedy, How I Met Your Mother, that I saw was the one where Barney has a secret hater that he and his friends try to figure out. That episode caused me to start watching and enjoying that show. So its no surprise that I am transfixed and really want to read read this book. I want to find out Julia's secret admirer. And hopefully to feel a strong connection with Julia as a I read this book. I hope Jason is swoonworthy and flawfull. I hope I find passages in this book where I cannot stop and think about him. Who knows? Hopefully all my hopes will be answered. I will just have to wait and see for Meant to Be to come out. 

And the characters go to... Wait for it... London!!!!! Alright, you probably already know that from the summary but I felt like making a reference. (If you watched a certain show, you know what I mean) I love London!!!! I love the Tube! I love the open-air markets! I love the awesome Changing of the Guard ceremony, despite how hard it is to see the action. I cannot wait to read about the trip to London.

I am amazed at how breathless I am after finishing If I Lie by Corinne Jackson. This story is about Sophie Topher Quinn. Quinn's boyfriend Carey is a soldier stationed in Afghanistan. He was home for awhile for the summer. Carey told Quinn a huge secret that he made her promise not to tell anyone. A promise that Quinn has protected with her life. Its the middle of Quinn's senior year when the story begins. Quinn and everyone else in her small town has just found out the Carey is MIA. To make things worst for Quinn is everyone thinking Quinn cheated on Carey. In reality there is more to Quinn's story than what appears on the outside. It is also the story about the results of Quinn's mother cheating on her father when she was eleven.

Quinn’s story is full of passion, heartbreak, the power of a promise and the struggle to stay strong while being oppressed no matter what. It is a story that I will never forget. I feel aching pain as I dwell in every struggle Quinn faced. I wished every moment that her amazing best friend Carey could have been their to help her. If he had been there all the horrible things that happened to Quinn would not happen. Despite Carey never being in the present for the most of the book, all the flashbacks reveal that he truly care for Quinn more than anyone else in the world.

It is heartbreaking watching and learning every secret Quinn had to keep. This book flawlessly stitched what happened in the past together with the present. I felt no head-jerk as the story weaved from present to past. The truth of Carey and Quinn's secret and of what really happened during the summer is heartwarming. Tears spill thinking about the bad luck they both faced. For the separation they endured throughout this book. 

I constantly wanted to bang Quinn’s head for being too stubborn to admit the truth. Quinn is self-less in her love for Carey. I understand why she kept her secret but I wish she did not. I ached as she felt self-loathing. Every feeling Quinn feels is raw, rich and moving. I desperately wish I could have put a warm quilt over Quinn. I completely understood her disgust for her mom and dad. Her mom left her and never came back till her senior year in high school (the middle of the book). Her dad pretends she never exists and is distasteful towards her because he thinks Quinn cheated on Carey. Quinn's whole life is dysfunctional and I amazed at how well she stays strong no matter what. 

I cannot write this review without mentioning George. George is a true role model and friend to Quinn. George is a snarky and elderly Veteran of the Vietnam War who is currently at the VA Medical Center where Quinn volunteers. He never believes the flammable rumors of Quinn. He constantly brings joy to her life and cares for Quinn like she was his own daughter. 

George is funny. George is loveable. George is delightful. 

This is a story about hope. A story about promise. A story about regret. Most of all, a story about love. A story about remembering who you are in face of adversity. One mistake can lead to heartbreak. One moment.

Like Quinn remarked, “Sometimes a moment defines your, defines how people see you the rest of your life.” (Jackson 249)

Remember to always have hope and to keep those who truly know you, truly love you close. That is this unforgettable book true legacy to me.

My thoughts:

I really like the variety of gorgeous shades of color used in the background. The two people looking like their in the middle of a real intense conversation. The title is in nice and swirly font.

I admire the general concept of Glitch by Heather Anastasiu. I always wondered what it would be like to wake up in the world where everyone is supposed to not feel emotion. To be part of a dystopia where you are not even supposed to have empathy. I cannot imagine living without bonds of friendship, occasional flashes of annoyance and moments of joy.

I enjoyed reading how Zoe learned about emotions, like love and hate, throughout the book. The beginning was very slow paced. I had a hard time diving into this story and becoming interested in Zoe's life. I enjoyed reading Zoe's struggle to not appear different, but I never go into the world. I  never grew to adore Zoe. She had spurts of personality, but I never really wanted to become her friend throughout the book. I felt she lacked spunk. 

The plot for the most part was repetitive and not much occurred during the majority of the book. There was a love triangle that I never really cared for. My ideal love triangle is one where the one in the remarkable middle’s choice is not obvious, where I grow to care about the two lovely people in the corners. Even though I know love triangles are unrealistic, if it is a superb one, I really like them. Sadly, I knew right away whom Zoe would pick and I was right. And he was remarkable and loveable. Adrien is my favorite character of the novel. He is sweet, charming and intelligent. Max, on the other hand, disgusted me.

There are two parts of the book that I really loved and had a fantastic time devouring. When Zoe and Adrien have their first real conversation about love, the truth about the evil Community, and the heartbreaking ending. I felt those parts were amazingly well written. The exciting conversation was full of passionate desire between the two and learning about Adrien’s mothers exciting history. The ending was sorrowful and impeccably well placed. I cannot imagine a better ending. Really, I just re-read the ending and I am still amazed at the perfection of this brilliant ending. The last conversation between Zoe and Max is viciously real, the confrontation with the evil villain was scary, and the last passage is full of gorgeous hope for the future. 

Overall, Glitch is a decent read. It may not be a book of epic proportions, but it is a book that I greatly enjoyed despite many drawbacks. 

Excerpt Time!!!!!!!!!!!!

The following excerpt is from one of my two favorite parts of Glitch! I really liked Zoe's reaction to hearing the common phrase "Fell in love." 

“Fell in love?” I frowned. “Love makes you fall?”

He laughed a little. He paused, looking up toward his brain, something I noticed he did when he was thinking.

“It’s just a saying. It means that two people start loving each other. I guess because it can feel really sudden and because it’s powerful. Like gravity-an unstoppable force.”

“Love is like gravity?” I was still puzzling out the concept. “It sounds violent.”

He laughed and nodded. “But in a good way.”

I was amazed I’d read so many confusing things about emotions in the history archives, but love was the most confusing of all. A thrill prickled as I realized I was actually talking to someone who’d really experience all of these confusing emotions and could help me understand.

“Have you ever fallen? In love, I mean?”

He laughed again but it sounded different, higher pitched than normal. He shifted in his seat. “I’ll get back to you on that one.”

Five "Star" Reasons I loved this book:

1. Ethan and Kenzie travel around Faeryland and Eatth. Including my home state of Maryland!

2. Grim is still an awesome and has many, like a hundred (ok I'm exaggerating), appearances!

3. Ethan is does Kali, which is one the most awesome martial arts that I every heard of. Who knew sticks could be so powerful? The Filipino culture definitely created an amazing form of martial arts! 

4. Kenzie, the female lead, has a surprising secret!

5. Julie Kagawa is a geniuns in the way she writes descriptions of Faeryland, Kali and the other places Ethan goes to. She just plains writes impeccably!!! 

6. Ok. I couldn't stop at five. The Lost Prince is a rare five star book where I will never forget; I will love with all my heart; I wish I could hug a physical copy of (come on October) and I will consistently recommend on my blog in the most creative ways possible. This spotlight in Showcase Sunday is just the beginning!

As a fun post to celebrate the epic winning match, I will present a discussion post where everyone can state all their favorite book crushes. I met many amazing boy characters throughout my eight years of reading young adult literature. I wish I could be friends with many of them: Harry Potter, Neville Longbottem, Balthazar Moore, Carter Blume, Christian Ozera, Nick Merrick, Ash and many more. There are two boys, however, that I have a crush on. 

Now, Here is my Two Book Boyfriends!!!!!!!!!!

These two boys are boys I think about late at night and constantly wish could be real. 

One coincidental common characteristic: they both have a really bad father, but end up amazing people despite that draw back. 

1. Adrian Ivashkov from the Vampire Academy and Bloodlines series by Richelle Mead

He is awesome. He is compassionate. He is loyal. He is handsome. He is an artist. He is caring. 

I love the amazing character development he overcomes throughout these two series. I love how much he does for love. He is also hilarious. I laughed so much whenever I read his amazing jokes. I am constantly surprised by the self-less actions he does to help his friends. He is dauntless even though he is a not a physical fighter. He also is a brilliant thinker when he wants to. He also really likes cherry sluchies. He is determined to live life to the fullest.

He is amazing. He is surprising. He is passionate. He is charming. He is a fiercely loyal. He is chivalrous.

Unlike Adrain, I only fell in love with this book boy from two books. Every time I re-read a book he is in, I first rush to one of his marvelous moments before I start at the beginning of the story. Every scene he is in, he leaves a mark. I love how he never breaks a promise or reveals a secret that will ruin anyone he cares about life. He is not ambivalent in what he wants and cares for someone he thinks is his ex-girlfriend.

Summer Wrap-up Thon: The Flower Challenge

I have always liked flowers. They many amazing flower names and uses for flowers; from remembering love ones to gifts. For my challenge you can use any flower name and use it as the stem for an acrostic poem. I think this challenge is a great way to create a fun poem. You can complete this challenge as a blog post or in comments till the end of the read-a-thon, which is midnight, in whatever time zone you are in, on August 12th. The poem will be you describing why you like reading, blogging or any hobby you are passionate about. You can use a flower name as short as rose or as long as carnation!

The book I have been obsessing on for the last few days is Hide and Seek by Sara Shepard. The book before this book. I really want to know more about the mystery surrounding Sutton and Emma's mother Becky and have new amazing scenes featuring my newest book crush Thayer Vega to reminisce. I really hope that Emma decides to trust Thayer with the identical twin secret in the next book. Really, Thayer would be very helpful mystery solver and proved again and again to be completely trustworthy! 

I seriously cannot wait for this book to come out! I have already listed many of my theories for The Lying Game series on my review for this book on Goodreads. Since I admire the captivating writing as well as plot of this series, I cannot wait for this book. I would jump up and down and hug everyone around me if I got an ARC of this book; that shows how much I am eagerly anticipating Cross My Heart, Hope To Die.

At first glance, Lies Beneath by Anne Greenwood Brown has an exciting premise. A male merman point of view out for revenge with his sisters. He is out to infiltrate a relationship with the daughter of his target, Lily, and begins to fall in love her her. A star-crossed relationship has always been a favorite romantic development of mind. I love the drama its ensues, the shifts of alliances and the struggles to realize who to trust and remain loyal to. 

Sadly Lies Beneath was a hard book for me to read through. It took several weeks of on and off reading for me to finally finish this book.

I decided to request this book because I wanted to see if I would mind how Calder already was working on not killing humans before the novel even began. I found that while I minded that fact, what really caused me to struggle through this book was my lack of ability to connect to the story at all. I spent my time reading this book without the usual passionate energy that usually flows through me as I read a book. I felt like I was sitting in an empty room, bored with the lack of excitement. Calder was not an exciting character to me and the plot was slow and disjointed, full of plot holes. The reason for the revenge was incomplete, I was indifferent to the romance tingling between Calder and Lily and did not care much for a very sad event that occurred in the end of the book. If I really find a book interesting, I will always feeling uneasy and morose for a tragic event. 

I may have found that I lacked connection with the story, but the overall theme of happiness being important to gain through one's inner self is an important theme that I often forget. I am glad I was reminded of this life lesson in this book. This lesson is shone through Calder and his mermaid sisters killing humans so they could have their happiness. Lily and the rest of the Hancock family amplify the fact that happiness is through love and acceptance of oneself. 

Overall, I suggest that if you want to try Lies Beneath, that you borrow it at the library first. You might be able to connect to its story and I hope you do.
