Hello Everyone! Thanks for visiting my blog! It is currently my birthday night, April 5! I had an awesome birthday day full of excitement and chocolate ice cream cake! Although, I did not receive my ideal birthday gift (an ARC of the highly sought for The Golden Lily by Richelle Mead).
Who else loves the Vampire Academy series? You can read my Bloodline's review here!
Feature and Follow is a fantastic weekly meme hosted by the lovely Allison Can Read and the amazing Parajunkee. It is a wonderful way to chat with new bloggers and bond with old ones. Also, its a perfect way to gain followers!
The question of the week!
Have you ever read a book because of a bad review?
ad review?
My Answer!
Well, I read books that I adored that others disliked but I never actually read a book because I read a bad review. When I choose the books I read I judge them based on their synopsis, excerpts and reviews. The factor that matters the most is the excerpts because they illustrate to me if I like the author's writing style. Recently, I wisely choose to read a book called Take A Bow by Elizabeth Eulberg based on its excerpts and boy, I was completely amazed and loved that book!
Thanks for visiting!
I agree - reading excerpts first is the only way for me to decide if I'll actually buy/read a book. Only sometimes do reviews influence me THAT much.
ReplyDeleteFollowing right back attcha C;

Ooh Happy Birthday!! Imo this question is dumb, who reads a book because of a bad review!? O_O Anyways, I'm glad you didn't. Because it's stupid. Bahaha
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday!! I'm sorry you didn't get the ARC, but glad everything else seemed to go well :)
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you liked Take A Bow, too! I purchased it but haven't had a chance to read it yet, so it's nice to see some reassurance that it was a good buy haha.

Belated happy birthday then! *huggles*
ReplyDeleteI tend to fall for real love or real hate reviews, they make me curious. But your method of choosing what to read is the most rational one, by large I do the same. After all opinions are opinions, what matters is after I read a page or so of the book, do I want to read more? If I do, I will. Simple as that :)
New follower. Have a fab weekend!

I feel like everyone has their own opinion and what I may love someone else may hate.

New follower here =)Happy birthday!
ReplyDeleteReviews matter a lot to me. Not unless the book became controversial that I would really feel the need to read that book.

Excerpts and blurbs definitely matter! Sometimes I'm introduced to the said blurb BECAUSE of a particular snarky review that makes me curious of the book- so that's kind of great. Have a great weekend :)
ReplyDeleteGreat answer! I generally don't buy books with a lot of bad reviews, as I prefer to borrow them first. But if the synopsis is intriguing me, then I am more apt to make an exception than not.
ReplyDeleteNew follower here! Happy Friday :).

Happy Birthday and thanks so much for stopping by!
ReplyDeleteI agree -- a bad review isn't a reason for me to avoid a book --- depends why the person didn't like it, how many bad reviews, etc. A book with 100% good reviews makes me suspicious anyway -- it's impossible for everyone to like any book!
I will read a book with bad reviews everyone's tastes are different. What they hate I might love! New GFC and linky follower
ReplyDeleteNew follower hopping through! Great post! I followed you through GFC and Linky Tools - you can return the favour over at http://www.bethebooks.blogspot.com :) Happy Friday!

Hi,
ReplyDeleteNew follower, nice to meet you!! Hope you had a great Birthday, my Birthday is the 17th of April.
I would not seek out a book intentionally because of a bad review, but I definitely have read books with bad reviews and loved them. For me it is based on the book and author.
