Reality Ends Here by Alison Gaylin Review

Hi Everyone!

Today I am reviewing...

Reality Ends Here by Alison Gaylin
Publication Date: June 10th, 2013
Publisher: Pocket Star
Source: E-ARC from Netgalley
Rating: 2.5/5 ALLRIGHT STARS

My Review:

Well, I find Reality End Here by Alison Gayin divides into two parts. One part wanders about a reality show family hysteria and the second part beats a thriller mystery.

I found the first part the better of the two sections. The distance and struggle for reconciliation between Estella and her mother. Estella’s adorable younger siblings that each had their own issues that I wish they did not have to experience yet. The story relates the scrutiny Estella has to deal with as a reality star.

The mystery runs in absurdity. I believed the story was exciting and entertaining. I wished I everything came together though in a sense of more related cause and effects.  Basically, the mystery exploration existing in a less jumpy manner.

Estella is not among my list of touching characters. Her circumstances are what interested me. But she never goes beyond her circumstances to become a person I would root for or want to meet in reality.

This is an interesting story. The plot is imperfect yet I found it amusing. The beginning’s is wonderful as it portrays of adorable young children in a genuine manner. The mystery's results were a mixture of bothersome stretches and surprising movements.

It is just not a story that lingers. I hardly remember many of the characters of reaching beyond the surface.
Thanks for reading!

  1. It's really hard to enjoy a book where the MC is unlikeable and the characters do not leave much of an impression. Sorry this wasn't better for you, Rachel. Great honest review. :)

  2. Okay trying again...sorry about the comment fail. this is the second review I have read on this one and neither review was glowing. I think the premise sounds fun but the absurdity of the mystery would ruin it for me, too. Thanks for the honest review, Rachel. I am going to steer clear of this one as it is not my cuppa!

  3. Thanks for sharing your thoughts! I felt a little confused after reading the book summary and I'm glad that your review helped to clarify on the layers of plots that are involved in the story.

  4. Oh, gosh. I don't know why I've never heard of this one! I love the cover and the whole reality show meets thriller sounds pretty amazing.

But it falls short. I hate when stories don't linger for long and when characters aren't likable. I doubt this will be for me!

  5. Awh, I'm sorry this one wasn't consistently good, Rachel! I do love entertaining reads, but absurd plots tend to get me down. It sounds like this one is just one of those so-so books. I think I'll have to pass. Thanks for the candid review, Rachel! :)

  7. I've never heard of this one before Rachel! I love finding new books though, it's always a highlight of visiting a variety of blogs each day. It's a shame the mystery element isn't quite as interesting as the mother-daughter reconciliation drama, but I'm glad you still enjoyed reading this one as a whole. Lovely review!

  9. It's a shame that this book doesn't leave much of an impression. I'm getting so much pickier with what I read these days, that it's always frustrating when something doesn't turn out to be worth the time. Thanks for the honest review, Rachel!
